Languages often borrow loanwords from each other. This can be very useful in language learning, since familiar and well-known words can help explain more complex or unfamiliar concepts—such as grammar rules.
This is the case with the Italian word “panini”, which is the focus of this project.
Using this popular word, I created a vertical short-format video to explain the grammar rule related to masculine and plural nouns.
The video was designed to be shared on social media.
THE PROCESS
I recreated a dialogue between a waitress (performed by me) and a foreign client (also performed by me).
The client attempts to use the English version of the word “panini”. At first, the waitress struggles to understand the request, but once she does, she repeats the correct Italian version.
To create this video, I followed these steps:
Wrote the script, translation, and description
Recorded the two characters
Edited the video by alternating the two roles to reproduce the dialogue
Added sound and visual elements such as text, translation, background, and restaurant noises
RESULTS
This video went viral on Fun Italian Journey’s social media accounts, reaching three million views on YouTube and over half a million views on Instagram.
